Program note: The title La lune dans le caniveau comes from the eponymous French movie adapted from the pulp-noir novel The Moon in the Gutter by David Goodis. The movie, as well as the novel, follows three troubled characters chasing their obsessions in a contrasted and antithetic world.

This piece is loosely inspired by some of the themes developed in the movie and the novel. The opening motives are similar to the obsession of the main character and will evolve and transform during the piece but never disappear. The trio will come together, blend, and sometimes dislocate from each other throughout the development of the motives.
