Program note: La lutte pour la lumière was written for saxophonist Pisol Manatchinapisit to be performed at the Pavillon Le Corbusier. This piece is directly inspired by the work of Le Corbusier; the title is pulled from a famous quote from the architect. The electronics are built around the sound of an architect’s prime material: paper. The piece is constructed as a duet between the electronics and the primal qualities of the saxophone’s sound.
