TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a composition teacher, my primary objective is to assist students in developing their own voice through the creation of their personalized project. In the context of private lessons, I aim to never take the place of the composer and never involve myself in aesthetic choices. First and foremost the personal aesthetic of the student composer must be respected. As the instructor my first task is to understand the composer’s goals. Thus, the lesson starts with a discussion about their project and its objectives. I believe that the role of the teacher is to help the student understand how to get to where they want to go by analyzing the work in progress. Through discussion and analysis of the project with the student composer, my aim is to highlight the elements that are developing toward their goal, and to suggest possible ways to strengthen the work. After this initial step, the second task is to discuss and identify any potential technical issues and ways to resolve them. 

PRICING AND OPTIONS

Lessons are run over Zoom. The frequency of the lessons is up to the student, from weekly to monthly. Single session lessons are also possible.

Lessons run for 30 minutes or 1-hour. This choice is left to the student.

Pricing: $60 for a 30-minute lesson; $100 for a 1-hour lesson.

Lessons can take place in English or French.
